Heritage Plaza is located in Houston's downtown business district. The construction of the building was completed in 1987 in the midst of the major decline of real estate, banking, and oil industries in Texas in the 1980s. The leasable space of the building was therefore mostly vacant until Texaco decided to move its US headquarter in this building in 1989.
It was designed by the Houston-based M. Nasr & Partners P.C in the postmodern style. The top part of the building is cladded with granite and said to be inspired by Mayan pyramids.

The rest of façade features the curtain wall with a blue-tinted glass. This has an effect where, in certain light and weather conditions, the top portion of the building stands out in the sky.
